Community Garden

Something wonderful is growing in the grounds of the Church!

Community Garden

The idea for a community garden was born from conversations with over 60 local residents in November, 2024. Community members shared a strong desire for more green, recreational growing spaces—places shaped, cared for, and enjoyed by the community, in ways that reflect local needs. At the same time, Deacon Kathy shared with Our Roehampton - the community development trust for the ward of Roehampton - her hope to see the church grounds used positively. This especially followed the recent community audit carried out by the Methodist Church, which highlighted the importance of the site to the users and wider local community, who valued the church presence and wanted to see it continue to flourish.

In response, Our Roehampton, with the generous support of the Wimbledon Foundation, began planning work alongside a community panel to turn these shared ideas and visions into a reality. Throughout the process, we have continued listening and creating space for more voices to be heard.

Community Garden consultationOn 6 November, 2025, we held an inspiring community event at the Methodist Church to celebrate and shape the new Community Garden. A huge thank you to everyone who attended and contributed such thoughtful and imaginative ideas.

We are now working towards bringing the garden to life! We are already seeing exciting developments in the grounds of the Church: new flower beds, rain water harvesting, a polytunnel, and much more.

The project is very keen to recruit local volunteers. For more details, contact Preya here or on 07544 591079.

Everyone is especially welcome to the Birds and Butterflies Community Picnic, taking place on Wednesday, 12 August from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. (Part of Roehampton Community Fortnight.)
